Internship guide (extracurricular, B.A.)

Guidelines for preparing the internship report in the Rehabilitation Pedagogy (B.A.) degree program with a focus on speech therapy (2nd practical phase)

General information

  • Please submit the report four weeks after the end of the internship to Sandra Szczecina ( R. 5.434) in the "Language and Communication" office or send it by e-mail (as an attachment in pdf) to sandra.szczecina@tu-dortmund.de.
  • The report will be read and evaluated by N.N. of the Language and Communication Department. You will be notified by e-mail when you can collect your report in person and have your completed internship confirmed on your certificate (which you should bring with you).
  • The following guidelines for preparing the internship report are intended as a checklist. You can also use the opportunity to focus on personally relevant aspects of your internship and customize your report.

Formal requirements

  • Your report must be a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 25 pages.
  • For the formal preparation of your internship report, please follow the "Guidelines for the preparation of qualification theses" compiled by the Department of Language and Communication.
  • Be sure to anonymize the data used!
Interviews, photos, therapy materials used, etc. are welcome for illustration purposes, but are subject to data protection. Obtain a declaration of consent from the client or the head of the facility and include it in the appendix of your report.
  • All sources of information to which you refer in your report, including anonymized expert opinions, interviews, etc., must be listed both in the text and in the bibliography.

Content structure

1. introduction

  • Formulate your expectations of the internship (e.g. your own assignment within the internship).
  • Explain the structure of your report (structure, references to the guidelines, focal points, etc.).

2. structural and content-related aspects of the work in the institution

  • Period of the internship
  • Type, location, catchment area, size, structure and history of the institution
  • Sponsorship and financing
  • Personnel, spatial and material equipment
  • Organizational framework of teamwork
  • Internal and external cooperation/networking
  • Provision of further and advanced training/supervision
  • Daily routines and "routines"
  • Description of the clientele (special focus?)
  • Therapy and support approaches/group or individual support
  • Work with parents and relatives
  • Special offers of the facility

3. specific professional work based on a case study

  • Characterize the disorder with reference to relevant specialist literature (definition of terms, symptoms, etc.).
  • Please describe the initial situation (anamnesis, biography, conditional background, impairments, current therapy content and resources in the areas of development: Perception, motor skills, cognition, language/communication, social and emotional behavior, etc.).
  • Write an observation protocol (including a summary) of one therapy session for the case study. (Details will be worked out in the preparatory seminar.) As an alternative to the observation protocol, you can create a transcript and a spontaneous speech analysis (for SES) of a 10-minute therapy excerpt with at least 30 utterances.
  • Based on this, document a therapy session that you have carried out yourself under supervision for the same case study, including planning, course/implementation and reflection. (Details will be worked out in the preparatory seminar).
  • Analysis of the relationship level: "The child/the adolescent/the adult and I."

4. overall reflection

  • Reflect on the course of the internship (own activities, supervision, induction, feedback from the institution, etc.).
  • Did your own ideas and expectations change as a result of the internship?
  • Document the experience and knowledge you gained from the internship (significance of the internship for your studies/later career, open and follow-up questions, etc.).
  • Formulate a "final flash" (What did I like best/least? My wish for the future).
