Relations between grammatical and mathematical development (literature project) -2021-2024
Numerous studies have shown that the acquisition of mathematical skills is closely linked to children's language development. Current studies suggest that grammar development in particular plays a special role, as it has been shown that grammar skills acquired at an early age have both an immediate and long-term effect on children's mathematical skills. The aim of the project, which started in April 2021, was to record the state of research on the relationship between grammatical skills and mathematical learning in children up to the end of 4th grade by means of a systematic review. There was an external cooperation with a working group at the Cognitive Neuroscientific Research Center in Lyon (CRNL), where a parallel analysis with neuroscientific studies had being carried out under the direction of Dr. Nurit Viesel-Nordmeyer and Dr. Tomoya Nakai.
The subsequent current project MetaGraM ("Meta-analysis of the relation between children’s grammatical skills and mathematical learning") has been funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) since 2024.
