2nd workshop "Advanced language acquisition" at the IBZ of TU Dortmund University

Following the successful launch of the workshop on "Advanced Language Acquisition" in October 2022 in Oldenburg, the workshop has now been continued at the Technical University of Dortmund on February 27 and 28, 2025.
This year's workshop took an interdisciplinary look at advanced language acquisition from the perspectives of language acquisition research and linguistics, language didactics and special needs education with a focus on language with the following questions, among others: Which linguistic phenomena and structures in advanced language acquisition cause difficulties for whom and why? Which diagnostic instruments are suitable for assessing advanced language skills? How can advanced language skills be promoted adaptively?
Exciting contributions were made from the fields of linguistics, language didactics and (special) education and their interfaces with language acquisition. Furthermore, informative poster contributions stimulated interesting discussions. The three keynotes presented by Prof. Marilyn Nippold (University of Oregon/USA), Prof. Dr. Susanne Seifert (University of Graz) and Prof. Dr. Melanie Bangel (University of Bielefeld) provided further food for thought and exchange. In addition, the lunch and coffee breaks were also used intensively for a more intensive exchange about the lectures, poster contributions and keynotes. The social dinner on Thursday evening at Pulsschlag rounded off the workshop.
The S&K team would like to thank all speakers and participants for their commitment, interest and for the informative and profitable contributions and discussions. Special thanks also go to the student and research assistants of the S&K team for their excellent support in organizing and conducting the workshop. We also appreciate the Studierendenwerk for the catering and the IBZ for providing the premises.
We look forward to more exciting workshops of this kind.
