Deadline extended for submissions for the "Advanced language acquisition" workshop in Dortmund in February 2025
Following the successful launch of the workshop on "Advanced Language Acquisition" in October 2022 in Oldenburg, the workshop will now be continued at the Technical University of Dortmund in February 2025.
This workshop will focus on language skills as one of the most important prerequisites for school success as well as professional and social participation. There is still a lack of research on productive and receptive language skills in advanced language acquisition during the school years and their significance for predicting the acquisition of further skills in other areas, such as technical skills in various school subjects, as well as diagnostic and support options for advanced language skills. A detailed consideration of the relationships between advanced language acquisition, reading/spelling skills, school success and other influencing factors such as multilingualism, social background and special educational support needs is desirable.
This workshop will therefore take an interdisciplinary look at language acquisition research and linguistics, language didactics and special needs education in the area of language support, focusing on advanced language acquisition with the following questions, among others: Which linguistic phenomena and structures in advanced language acquisition cause difficulties for whom and why? Which diagnostic instruments are suitable for assessing advanced language skills? How can advanced language skills be promoted adaptively?
We invite contributions from the fields of linguistics, language didactics and (special) education and their interfaces with language acquisition. Researchers from these disciplines work on very similar phenomena. The workshop is intended to stimulate cross-disciplinary discussions and invite participants to recognize and use synergies.
Framed by three invited keynotes by Prof. Marilyn Nippold (University of Oregon/USA), Prof. Dr. Susanne Seifert (University of Graz) and Prof. Dr. Melanie Bangel (University of Bielefeld), there will be presentations and a poster session.
