Conference presentations in Dortmund
The S&K team is represented with several presentations at the DGfE conference
Researchers from the field of language and communication will present their current work at the 59th annual conference of the Special Education Section of the German Educational Research Association (DGfE). The conference will take place from September 23-25, 2024 at TU Dortmund University. The following contributions will be presented by the S&K team:
- Dr. Nadine Elstrodt-Wefing, Prof. Dr. Anna-Lena Scherger and Jannika Böse will host a symposium on the topic of diagnostics and schools. In a total of four contributions, "Special educational diagnostics in the field of tension between different disciplines" will be discussed. In addition to the representatives of the department, Prof. Dr. Tobias Bernasconi, Prof. Dr. Gino Casale, Mia Schrage and Prof. Dr. Andres de los Reyes will be involved in the presentations.
- Dr. Isabel Neitzel and Tabea Musshoff will present the results of a textbook analysis that examines the overarching aspects between the special needs areas of language and intellectual development. Cross-cutting thinking in special needs education is highly relevant, particularly with regard to inclusion, but is still not sufficiently present in the works examined.
- In her presentation "Online self-assessment to promote inter- and transdisciplinary teacher communication using digital casework: The DigiFall project", Dr. Nadine Elstrodt-Wefing will present the results of a needs assessment on multiprofessional work and in relation to communication and counselling skills in educational and health-related contexts. In addition, results from six focus groups will be reported, in which problem-oriented case studies were (further) developed to promote these skills.
- Dr. Isabel Neitzel, together with colleagues from the Department of Intellectual Disability (Prof. Dr. Pia Bienstein, Dr. Dr. Reiner Haus and Dr. Alexandru Agache), will present the results of the evaluation of self-learning modules on rare genetic syndromes from the "Erleichtert Leben" project. These were tested with students specializing in intellectual development and relatives from a parents' association on Smith Magenis syndrome with regard to acceptance, feasibility and individual learning gains.
- In the discussion forum "Digital case work as an approach to inter- and transdisciplinarity in special education" by Matthias Schäfer, Dr. Nadine Elstrodt-Wefing and Dr. Michélle Möhring, a digital case scenario will be presented, which is to be worked on within a self-assessment by students of educational and health-related courses. The aim of the forum is to discuss the possibilities and limitations of the assessment with regard to the practical application and examination of competencies for interdisciplinary cooperation among students. The focus will be on how digital tools can contribute to conveying the aspect of inter- and transdisciplinarity in special education in university teaching in a practice-oriented way.
