International Day of Development Language Disorders 2026

© privat

Friday, October 16, 2026, is International DLD Day! The S&K team is supporting the event with a T-shirt campaign and a series of educational posts on Instagram!

On October 16, 2026, it’s that time again: International Developmental Language Disorder Day, which is supported internationally by RaDLD (Raising Awareness for Developmental Language Disorder, www.radld.org) and nationally by GISKID, aims to draw attention to developmental language disorder, which, although one of the most common developmental disorders in childhood, is often overlooked. There is insufficient awareness of this condition in society (see Scherger, 2023).

The Language & Communication Team at TU Dortmund University participates in various activities every year (educational videos on social media, free online training sessions, flyer campaigns, etc.). This year, the team will once again take part in the campaign wearing the T-shirts produced for the campaign by the Universities of Cologne and Munich (Thanks to Munich and Cologne for these!) and will wear them wherever they go (both on and off campus), so that everyone we encounter is made aware of the campaign! We’re also posting a series of educational videos on our new Instagram channel (@sk_tudortmund) in which we address facts and myths surrounding developmental language disorders and provide information about them.

Let’s work together to help minimize misdiagnoses! Learn more about it yourself, and then feel free to share this information with everyone around you. If left undiagnosed, it can have devastating effects on those affected—impacting their well-being, educational journey, and social interactions!
