S&K represented several times at IASCL 2024 in Prague
This year's international congress of the IASCL (International Association for the Study of Child Language) took place from July 15-19, 2024 at Charles University in beautiful Prague and offered a very good opportunity to represent the breadth of research on child language conducted by the Language & Communication team at TU Dortmund University internationally. With three talks and a poster, the S&K team was strongly represented after a highly competitive abstract selection and was able to engage in numerous exciting discussions with an international audience. Dr. Eva Wimmer, Jannika Böse, Lisa Röbstek and Prof. Anna-Lena Scherger took advantage of the many opportunities to establish and expand collaborations and to network.
On Tuesday, Dr. Eva Wimmer presented and discussed data from the Dortmund longitudinal study in her poster contribution on "Grammatical skills and working memory in German children at school age".
On Wednesday, Jannika Böse (and Prof. Anna-Lena Scherger) presented the Meerkat Project, also a longitudinal project, with the latest results from the fourth testing session entitled "Unraveling indicators of DLD in children with low exposure to their L2: A longitudinal approach".
This was followed on Thursday by the presentation of the first 70 subject data from the DFG-funded pupillometry project by Lisa Röbstek and Prof. Anna-Lena Scherger entitled "The use of pupillometry in bilingual assessment" and a compilation of results from several projects by Prof. Anna-Lena Scherger and Prof. Angela Grimm (Goethe University Frankfurt) on the topic of "Nonword repetition in bilingual German children by age 4-10". This presentation was part of a symposium organized by Dr. Maren Eikerling (University of Halle-Wittenberg) on the topic of nonword repetition and the role of implementation criteria and nonword characteristics.
Overall, IASCL 2024 in Prague was very productive and exciting for the S&K team. We are looking forward to the next joint (inter)national conference!
