At the BiSLI Conference, which took place on April 23 and 24, 2026 in Croatia's capital, international scientists met to share the latest research and discuss the topic of multilingualism and developmental language disorders.

The Dortmund Language & Communication team was very well represented with several presentations and poster contributions.

The poster contributions were on dissertation topics by Tina Ghaemi and Jenny Thillmann

Jenny Thillmann, Tina Ghaemi, Anna-Lena Scherger: Does nonverbal IQ really matter in the diagnosis of developmental language disorder (DLD) in multilingual children?

Pauline Schröder also successfully made her international conference debut on the topic with an excerpt from her Master's thesis.

Pauline Schröder, Anna-Lena Scherger: Productive and receptive (academic) language skills in children with DLD: The role of family contact intensity with the majority language

The S&K contributions accepted as presentations belonged to the Surfaced and SPEAK projects:
Lisa Röbstek & Anna-Lena Scherger: Screening for the identification of risk for developmental language disorders in monolingual and bilingual preschool children

Angela Grimm, Anna-Lena Scherger, Tanja Rinker & Natalia Gagarina: Language diagnosis for multilingual children: Validation of a test battery.

With Jana Seidel, who presented her Master's thesis as a poster, which was supervised by Prof. Anna-Lena Scherger, the picture of research around S&K interests was complete:

Jana Seidel, Seda Saban-Dülger, Anna-Lena Scherger: Turkish Heritage Language Comprehension Test for Turkish-German Bilingual Children: a Pilot Study on Feasibility and Diagnostic Potential.

The S&K team is looking forward to the next BiSLI Conference in 2028 in Padova/Italy and will certainly take its own research another good step forward by then!
