Dr. Alexander Röhm (Department of CHIP) and Dr. Eva Wimmer (Department of Language & Communication), in cooperation with Dr. Nurit Viesel-Nordmeyer (Department of Methods in Empirical Educational Research / University of Aix-Marseille and CNRS), are planning a meta-analysis on the relationship between grammatical skills and mathematical learning. Based on a systematic review of 95 empirical studies that has already been carried out, the available statistical evidence is to be summarized in order to determine overarching significances, effect sizes and influences of moderators (e.g. working memory and intelligence) between the two areas of competence. One of the long-term goals is to derive evidence-based recommendations for the training of future teachers and to optimize teaching, diagnostics and interventions in mathematics as well as in the areas of language and learning. In the current planning phase, a DFG application is being prepared to carry out the meta-analysis.
